Rest Days
A rest day is a day off that employees can use for recovery. In the Swiss hospitality industry, rest days are defined in the national collective employment agreement (L-GAV) and guarantee employees regular time off from work.
Basics
- Working hours: Typically a 7-day week with 42 hours, i.e., 6 hours per day. An 80% workload corresponds to 4.8 hours per day.
- Entitlement: Employees are entitled to 2 rest days per week (6 hours each). With an 80% workload, this means 2 rest days at 4.8 hours each.
Accrual of Rest Days
Rest day entitlement is accrued progressively.
- 100% workload: 42 working hours per week, 12 hours of rest days per week → 0.2857 rest day hours per working hour.
- Accrual is based on working time and rest time, but not on vacation, sick leave, or other so-called slashers → e.g., 7 days of vacation do not generate any rest day accrual.
- Compensation days and empty shifts also contribute to rest day accrual.
Monthly Entitlement
The monthly rest day entitlement varies depending on the number of days in the month and the number of slasher days.
The monthly entitlement can be calculated as follows:
Formula: (days in the month − slasher days) ÷ 7 = weeks per month. Weeks × 2 (rest days per week) = rest day entitlement per month.
The number of rest days stays the same regardless of workload. This means that with an 80% workload, 2 rest days per week are still granted, plus 1 additional day for compensation (20%). Compensation can be entered either as a "Compensation" absence or by simply leaving a day unscheduled.
Half Rest Days
Half rest days can also be granted.
Half rest days:
- Morning until 12:00 PM or afternoon from 2:30 PM.
- Maximum working time on such days: max. 5 hours, interrupted only by meal breaks.
Payout at Departure
Unused rest days are paid out at the end of the employment relationship at 1/22 of the monthly gross salary per day.
Configuring the Rest Day Time Account in JobDone
By default, rest days are set to 2 days per week.

The rest day account is set by default to a weekly period from Monday to Sunday, and the duration equals the contractual working hours per day.

Rest days have no impact on the target working time.
